Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

How long have you been making Aussie Swag campers?

A.

We began manufacturing Aussie Swag Campers in early 1986. One year before the previous owners of Campomatic & almost ten years before the previous owners of Kimberley campers. In fact, we were (and remain) responsible for many innovations in flip over design campers.

-1986 Fully galvanized chassis
-1987 Under floor storage bins
-1988 Kitchen units
-1988 Refrigeration boxes on draw bar
-1989 Window over draw bar end and second door way in camper tent
-1992 Treg 360 degree trailer coupling used
-1993 Lift up bed and mattress with gas struts used
-1993 Slide out storage drawers under the bed
-1994 Gas struts on camper body to assist opening & closing
-1995 Solar panels installed on campers
-1996 Independent coil trailing arm suspension
-1996 Fixed built-in dust-proof kitchen pantry
-1996 Swing around kitchen that does not intrude on space in t
railer body
-1999 Nose cone storage box
-2000 Kids room available
-2001 Tropical roof standard on all Aussie Swag Campers. A second suspended roof froms a breeze way to keep camper cooler, eliminate condensation and to stop bird droppings, sap from trees etc. damaging the main tent. It can be easily taken off to be cleaned or replaced
-2002 New Ultra model released. The best equipped hard floor flip o
ver camper available in Australia
-2004 Ultra 4 burner stainless steel kitchen standard on all models.
-2004 Sine wave inverter used.
-2006 Roof air vent - coolest camper in Oz.
-2006 21st Anniversry models released. Clearly the best campers available.

Q. Are your campers suitable for off road?
A. We began hiring our campers out to the general public for unrestricted use in 1986. Our first campers went to Cape York in 1987. (It was a real adventure in those days.) This developed into a busy rental business with a total of 25 campers operating from Thornleigh (Sydney), Strathpine and Rocklea (Brisbane). This business continued for over ten years without any structural problems with our campers. During this period off-road travel became very popular. This experience has greatly influenced our current range of unbreakable off-road camper trailers.

Q. What is the best type of refrigeration and where is the best place to carry it?
A. We have concentrated on the refrigeration side of the business since 1987 and can discuss and advise you on the best alternatives to suit you. Ask the experts! Major competitors have only have been installing fridges in the last few years previously advising "the front of the camper is not suitable". We won't give you difficult graphs and charts about energy consumption, just useful accurate information that is sourced from being used in extreme situations (not from a computer generated programs and hot rooms).

Q. Do you have disc brakes?
A. No. Disc brakes on caravans and camper trailers, whether they are cable or hydraulically operated, are only the over-ride type. Over-ride brakes are inefficient and the driver has no control over the operation at all. They may look impressive but they are technology from the 1950’s. They are rarely used now in the caravan and camper trailer industry especially where efficient and safe braking is expected. The off-road electric brakes manufactured by “Alko” are superb, but you must install the correct type control unit as recommended by “Alko”.

Q. What happens to the wet canvas when you have to pack up in the rain?
A. The canvas we use does not transfer moisture when wet. Ask the "Aussie Swag Camper" owner. This is not an issue.

Q.

Is your bed queen size?
A. It is as long as a queen size but not as wide. Having a space at the side of the bed makes the bed easier to make and enables us to have access to the useful storage bins down the side. The trailer body is 5’7” wide inside so you have stacks of elbow room.

Q. Do you use fine insect screening?
A. The screening we use is designed to keep out insects but allows adequate air flow. The so called “midgeproof” screening is very fine but unfortunately restricts air flow. If you want it, we will use it at no extra cost as long as you understand the disadvantages.

Q. I am from interstate. What do I do for warranty?
A. Most people buying our campers intend to use them in outback, off-road, isolated areas. Because of this we ensure that all aspects of our design & construction provide trouble free service in these conditions. When something does happen, nobody can advise on or assist you better than us, the designers & manufacturers. As we only use materials & components from experienced, reputable and proven suppliers and manufacturers, you can be assured that we can arrange parts & service more efficiently than a dealer or agent.

Q. Are your campers dust & water free.
A. As we are an honest manufacturer we cannot tell you our campers are 100% dust free. We have designed and have our own special double overlocking dust seal installed in every camper giving you 99% efficiency.

Q. Why don’t you have dealers?
A. Our camper is a cleverly designed camper that can be set up in a variety of ways to suit individual needs. Our vast experience in outback travel with our campers can be of great advantage to potential buyers. Many sales people do not have the experience or the motivation to fully explain our camper & options. Also an agent must be paid to sell our product. This unfortunately adds to the price you pay.

Q. How does your camper compare to other brands?
A. Have a close look. We offer unbelieveable quality and value with many standard inclusions others just don't offer.

Q. How long will the canvas last?
A. We use top quality Australian canvas which has been developed to handle diverse Australian conditions. Canvas kept clean & dry in storage will last many years. We sometimes see 1980'S models Aussie Swags that have been regularly used and the canvas is still in good condition.

Q. What are the trailers made from?
A.

The chassis, draw bar and the suspension trailing arms are all hot dipped galvanized. The trailer body is zinc flat steel painted with a 2-pack epoxy automotive enamel. The roof is an aluminium honeycomb panel for weight saving and strength. All other fittings are either stainless steel, aluminum or zinc plated. This construction ensures that your investment will not be prematurely affected by harsh environmental conditions.

Q. Does your stove mark the canvas when cooking?
A. No. We have designed a unique slide-out swing around kitchen that maximises the available living area under the annex. The stove has its own stainless steel splashback and we provide a separate velcro-on vinyl splashback to eliminate any possible splashing from cooking.
Q. How long does the camper take to set up?
A. The camper sets up in under one minute freestanding, up off the ground and fully screened. Of course it takes longer if annexes, kids rooms etc. are set up.
Q. Do you sell 2nd hand campers?
A. No. We only manufacture and sell new Aussie Swag Campers.
